What is the life relief care Project?The life relief project is our way of reaching out to people and communities where they are experiencing or have experienced natural disasters due to climate changes, crop failures, farming devastation, drought, flooding, tornado damages or even lack of of basic amenities such as water, sanitary facilities or similar adverse conditions.
Why is there a need for this Project?Due to climatic changes in our world, we are seeing more droughts, crop failure, scarce/lack of water resources in many communities, especially in the developing world. We have more incidences of devastating forest fires, massive mud slides wiping out communities, excess rain leading to flood, causing damages to homes, farms & livestock. We are seeing my Tsunamis, earthquakes, more pestilence & diseases such as Covid-19 amongst others, yet in all of this, the most marginalised and the poorest of the poorest still continue to bear the brunt of the burden generated by all these disasters and adverse conditions in our world. We all have an obligation to do our part because:
- We all have a shared responsibility - We are our brother's keepers.
- Disaster can happen to anyone of us too at anytime and we would love to see people get up to help us - right?
- When disaster hits the poor, it can only lead to more poverty, homelessness & destitution.
- If and when crops fail, people go hungry and many fall ill and die as a result.
- Women, girls & children are often the main casualty in almost every disaster - who will help them?
- Governments everywhere/anywhere are unable to assist everybody, so someone needs to step in and do what we can.
- Where there is no clean or fresh water, people die from drinking polluted water. They catch all sorts of diseases and many people especially childrenn die as a result.
What is the level of need & response planning?Disaster is mostly unpredictable. It can occur or strike at any time, any where. The smartest thing any organisation can do is to partner with other relief organisations at strategic places in the world where they are prone to harships from crazy weather patterns, cyclones, earthquakkes, flooding or drought and to work together to have a disaster readiness plan in place. It is also imperative to have an ongoing support projects such as water relief for villages and communities in the developing world. Our heart's desire at JHM Scotland, is to be an active partner in such communities and to jointly participate with others in:
- Bore hole, water relief projects to bring fresh waters to needy communities.
- Participate in tree planting projects to restore the land and bring back nature to places.
- Work with others to assist farmers in drought regions to gain access to good irrigation systems to water their crops & livestock.
- Land restoration and renewal projects.
- Rebuilding of houses in areas when flood, tornados and other forces of nature has devastated lives.
- Help partners to hold ready-to-go stock of tents, blankets, survival kits and stock up on essential disaster relief items.
- Fundraise to help meet the cost of all the above.
How can I help with the life relief care Project?1. We strongly encourage our missions partners & friends from all over the world to donate funds for us to become an active partner with other agencies on the ground. Your donations will enable us to touch many lives and be a restoration partner in the lives of many people who are going through trauma or unexpected devastation. 2.
